Congratulations to all our Ruahine ROCKERS! They performed marvellously in 'A Giant Mix-Up' last night. This is a culmination of our drama ('The Arts') inquiry. Pounamu team and Room 3 retold 'The BFG' with enthusiastic dancing and acting, and Kupe team performed 'The Iron Man' with some awesome interpretative dance and visual displays.

Congratulations to all those students who competed in Dannevirke Interschool Mathematics last night. Our teams competed against teams from St Joseph's, Norsewood, Huia Range and Dannevirke South.

Our Year 5/6 teams came 1st (William, Thomas, Maria) and 3rd (Ella, Jessica, Jack) with our Year 7/8 teams coming 1st (Anne, Amie, Natasha) and 3rd (Hughin, Walter, Aaron) as well!

You may have seen recent reports in the media criticising the Numeracy Project and it’s focus on teaching lots of different strategies for solving problems at the expense of the basics, leading to a decline in Mathematics achievement. You may find it pleasing to know that at Ruahine School we identified these exact issues in 2013 and in the last 18 months we have changed our way of teaching Mathematics to address this.

All students Rooms 1, 2 and 3 competed in the Tararua 7-a-side tournament last week. Out of the 8 cups available, we were thrilled to take home 2 - winning both the Junior Rugby and Senior Soccer!
