Congratulations to all our Ruahine ROCKERS! They performed marvellously in 'A Giant Mix-Up' last night. This is a culmination of our drama ('The Arts') inquiry. Pounamu team and Room 3 retold 'The BFG' with enthusiastic dancing and acting, and Kupe team performed 'The Iron Man' with some awesome interpretative dance and visual displays.  

School Speeches - Wednesday 17 August

Our school speech finals will be held in the school hall on Wednesday 17th August starting at 1pm. All welcome!

Junior students will be performing several poems throughout the afternoon.

Mathex Manawatu

On Friday 12th August deputy principal, Kate Dare accompanied 16 Ruahine School students to the Manawatu Mathex competition. 

Ruahine entered a year 5, 6, 7 and 8 team.

The competition ran in two stages, a practical round then a quick fire round of questions. 

Each team displayed collaboration, enthusiasm and resilience and represented our school with pride. Ruahine were thrilled with the outstanding results in each section.

Interschool Mathematics

Congratulations to all those students who competed in Dannevirke Interschool Mathematics last night. Our teams competed against teams from St Joseph's, Norsewood, Huia Range and Dannevirke South.

Our Year 5/6 teams came 1st (William, Thomas, Maria) and 3rd (Ella, Jessica, Jack) with our Year 7/8 teams coming 1st (Anne, Amie, Natasha) and 3rd (Hughin, Walter, Aaron) as well!

MidCentral Health Area - Measles

As you are no doubt aware, there has been a measles outbreak in the MidCentral Health, with confirmed cases in Levin and a suspected case in Palmerston North. Below is a link to Ministry of Health information around measles.

EPro8 Finals 2016

Congratulations to our two EPro8 teams for their 3rd placing’s in the Regional Finals.

Year 5 and 6: Cavan Murphy, Jack Stratford, Zach Filer & William Southgate.

Year 7 and 8: Natasha Bradbury, Aaron Davis, Amie Stratford & Anne Barrow and Rico

Castles who was in the semi-finals team.

These leaners have worked as a team to achieve these fantastic results. They had to use their problem solving skills to successfully complete these challenges.

Cross Country Training

The children have been training hard for cross country on Wednesday 8th June.

Mathematics Teaching and Learning at Ruahine School

You may have seen recent reports in the media criticising the Numeracy Project and it’s focus on teaching lots of different strategies for solving problems at the expense of the basics, leading to a decline in Mathematics achievement. You may find it pleasing to know that at Ruahine School we identified these exact issues in 2013 and in the last 18 months we have changed our way of teaching Mathematics to address this. 

At Ruahine School our teaching and learning of Mathematics focuses on:

Tararua 7-A-Side Competition

All students Rooms 1, 2 and 3 competed in the Tararua 7-a-side tournament last week. Out of the 8 cups available, we were thrilled to take home 2 - winning both the Junior Rugby and Senior Soccer!

Swimming Sports

Good luck to all those children competing in Interschool Swim Sports on Thursday.

On the 14 March we held our own Swimming Sports at Wai Splash in town. We had a fabulous time. Check out our photo gallery and latest photos to see all our fun! A big thank you to all the parents who helped out.
